Here at pro Do blow dry bar we specialize in blowouts and hair styling and our clients often ask us “How often should I wash my hair?” There isn’t exactly one specific answer. It comes down to your hair type, your activity level, and personal preference.

How to Determine When to Wash Your Hair

Everyone’s hair type, style preferences, and lifestyles are different. If you work out and sweat everyday, telling you to wash your hair as little as possible just won’t fly. Or if you color your hair, telling to wash your hair more often may lead to fading your color faster. It’s important you take your own personal habits and preferences into consideration to find a hair washing schedule that works best for you. If you have a feeling that you want to or should wash your hair, then do it! It’s your hair — so it’s important you’re comfortable with how it looks and feels.

Why is Washing Your Hair Regularly Important?

Shampooing helps remove dirt, oil, debris, and odors effectively from the hair. Excess oil and product buildup plugs up the follicles and can slow your hair growth, not to mention making your hair look and feel dirty.

What are the effects of chlorine on our hair and skin?

Chlorine is used in pools to protect us from waterborne illnesses and various skin infections. While it is overall a good thing to have in pools, it does have its drawbacks. Your hair needs its natural oils to remain smooth and healthy. Chlorine can remove these natural oils from your hair and skin, leaving them feeling dry and rough. It can also cause a chemical reaction in your hair, making your color dull and “green tinted”. Don’t worry though, because there are ways to protect your hair from chlorine and to repair damage.

How to prevent your hair from being damaged by pool water..

Wear a swim cap or clip your hair up to keep it dry.
If you do get your hair wet, rinse your hair right after swimming.
Use a detangling spray on your hair before brushing.
Comb your hair gently with a wide tooth comb when it’s wet/damp.

How to repair chlorine damage..
