A blowout is a hairstyling service that includes your hair being washed and conditioned, a relaxing scalp massage, then blow dried and styled with a round brush, hot tool or a combination of both.

A fine hair routine focuses on keeping hair light, healthy, and hydrated without weighing it down. Fine hair needs gentle cleansing, targeted moisture, and smart styling habits to maintain volume, softness, and strength.

At pro Do Blow Dry Bar, our favorite routine for fine hair balances all of that — and starts with the right foundation in the shower.

How to Know If You Have Fine Hair

Fine hair refers to the thickness of each individual strand, not how much hair you have on your head. You can have a lot of hair and still have fine hair — or thin hair that isn’t fine.

Fine Hair vs. Thin Hair

These are often confused but are not the same:

Fine hair = strand thickness
Thin hair = hair density (how much hair you have)

Fine hair often loses volume faster, can feel greasy sooner, and responds best to lightweight products and smart styling techniques. Understanding this helps you choose the right routine and avoid buildup that can make hair look limp.

Fine Hair Care Routine

Cleansing (2–3 times per week)
Use a lightweight, volumizing shampoo that cleanses thoroughly without stripping or coating the hair.
Our favorite for fine hair is Angel Wash by Kevin Murphy.
It gently cleanses while helping strengthen fine, fragile strands and protect against breakage — without leaving residue behind.
Conditioning
Conditioning is essential for fine hair — it just needs to be done correctly.
We recommend Angel Rinse by Kevin Murphy, applied mid-lengths to ends only.
Pro tip: Use less conditioner than you think and avoid the roots to keep volume intact.

Post-Wash Care (Leave-In)
Our go-to leave-in for fine hair is UNITE 7SECONDS Detangler because it:
- Smooths and detangles without weighing hair down
- Reduces frizz and improves brushability
- Protects and keeps fine hair soft and manageable
Apply to damp hair, focusing on the ends and lightly working upward.

Add Volume

For fine hair, volume works best when it’s lightweight and focused at the roots. We recommend Kevin Murphy Body Mass. Apply to damp hair at the roots before blow-drying for soft, natural volume that lasts.

BONUS: It promotes optimal scalp conditions to help anchor hair and prevent hair fall, assisting in the health of your future hair.

Hair Oil (Optional but Powerful)

Hair oil can absolutely work for fine hair — it just needs to be the right oil and used sparingly. We recommend Living Proof No Frizz Vanishing Oil

Use ½ pump or less, warming it between your hands and applying only to the ends once hair is dry.

Drying & Styling

Gently blot hair with a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt
Always use a heat protectant before blow-drying
Blow-dry with tension at the roots for lift
Finish with a light hairspray or texture spray if desired.

Nighttime & Maintenance Tips

Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce breakage
Avoid tight hairstyles that stress the hairline
