Root Spray

What is root spray? Root spray is a temporary cover up that washes out. Its great for those of you who have roots showing that can’t get to your stylist to color your hair. It’s perfect if you want to cover the gray in your hair.

We use both Kevin Murphy and Style Edit products. Both provide multiple options in both powder and spray forms.

Application: shake well, apply to part and hairline, put hand in place so you do not get any on face.

Warning: watch out for transfer. Rainy days and sweat might make color drip down.

*If you come into pro Do, you can ask your stylist for root spray and they will match it to your hair color for you:)

3 Reasons You Should Go Longer Between Hair Washes

Since we are all stuck at home being quarantined try training your hair to go longer between washes. This can make your hair so much healthier and less dry. Also, why wash your own hair when you have pro Do to do that for you when we reopen our doors! Here are 3 reasons you should go longer between washes:

  1. Your hair won’t be dry
  2. Your hair will be shinier- since you won’t be washing your hair as often, you won’t be stripping your hair and it will force itself to use its natural oils.
  3. Your hair color will last longer- “Hair color is like clothes: The more you wash them, the more worn out and faded they become,” -Will Francis

Our favorite thing to do with our hair when its greasy and dirty is to put it on top of our head in a bun. That way it wont be in your face bothering you. Let’s all try to go a couple days longer between our hair washes! How long can you go?

3 Ways to Prepare Your Hair for Spring

Now that Winter is coming to an end its time to start preparing your hair for the Spring. Yes, you should be transitioning your hair care routine with each season. Here are 3 Spring hair care tips:

  1. GET A TRIM– snipping off the ends will get your hair a fresh start from the harsh winter.
  2. SWITCH UP YOUR SHAMPOO/CONDITIONER– if you have been using a shampoo/conditioner with a lot of moisture try choosing one with less, that way you aren’t weighing your hair down and putting too much moisture into your hair now that winter is over.
  3. FRIZZY HAIR– Beat frizzy hair by investing in a serum. Try using Kevin Murphy, Smooth Again. One of our favs!

Hair Extensions!

I have too much hair… said NO woman ever! Not all of us have been blessed with thick hair. Thank goodness for hair extensions. For those of you who wear extensions or thinking about getting extensions here are some helpful tips:

If you can, try to have two sets of extensions: one straight and one curly. That way you are putting less damage on the hair extensions. This will help them to last way longer and it will save you time because they are always ready to go.

MAINTAINING AND WASHING: Wash your extensions based on how much you wear them. If you wear them a lot, you wash them more often. The best thing to do when washing your extensions is to take them into the shower with you and then lay them out to air dry.

CREATE A SYSTEM: Mark your extensions so you know where each piece goes on your head. When clipping on your head make sure you clip them right on your hair.

FINE HAIR: Worried about slippage on fine hair? Back comb each section where you will be applying the clip and spray a little hairspray before you clip it in.

REMOVAL TIP: When removing extensions make sure when you unclip you slide it up so you do not pull any hair out.

-STORAGE TIP: place hair in your hanger and store in bag.

If you don’t want to attempt this yourself for an additional $10 you can add it on to any service and pro Do will do it for you.

5 Tips For Healthy Hair During the Winter

Winter can be hard on our bodies. We lose a lot of moisture making us very dry. Here are a few tips to keep our hair healthy in the winter as well as our bodies:

  1. GO LONGER BETWEEN WASHES– Washing your hair regularly can have negative effects and dry your hair out. The weather is already making everything dry so the longer you can go between washes the less dry your hair will be.
  2. DRINK MORE WATER– You always need to get plenty of water but during the winter months it is important to be getting a little bit more. Try taking a water bottle everywhere you go. You will notice yourself reaching for your water bottle more often.
  3. EAT FOODS WITH VITAMIN C – Try to get more vegetables especially those leafy greens and fruit. These will increase your Vitamin C levels and provide your body with nutrients. Next time your at the store try a new vegetable that maybe you haven’t eaten in awhile. Also, taking a Vitamin C tablet as well as other vitamins can help as well.
  4. EAT HEALTHIER FATS– Getting the right fats can help bring moisture back into the body. Try avocados, healthy oils, nuts, and fatty fish.
  5. DEEP CONDITION– Using a hair mask at least once a week or after every 3-4 washes can help with moisture as well as static. Try using the Kevin Murphy masque or Living Proof mask treatment.

3 Tips to Get Rid of Staticky Hair

Have you ever wondered why your hair is more static in the winter vs the summer? It is due to the lack of moisture in the air.  Our heavy winter coats and outerwear can cause fly-away strands as well. Here are three ways to beat the winter static:

  1. Staying Alive by Kevin Murphy is an oil free, water based leave in conditioner that will give you hydration without weighing your hair down.  Lightly spray on dry hair, fluff and voilà!

2. Dryer Sheets!  Yes, you heard right. Run a dryer sheet though your mane to help tame that static.

3. Make sure you are getting enough hydration in your hair.  ie…. hydrating shampoo/conditioner, mask on a regular basis and use oil through your ends daily. Living proof restore mask is a great option for hydration.
